A primary therapist provides individual and
group psychotherapies. These Licensed Clinicians meet the facility's

provision of psychotherapeutic modalities is evaluated by the facility's
quality improvement and utilization review programs.
Individual Psychotherapy is a regularly
scheduled, at least three times per week, formalized psychotherapeutic session
usually conducted through confidential interventions. Individual psychotherapy
is a form of interpersonal Therapy focused on improving the resident's overall
level of adaptive functioning in reality testing, behavior, emotional
expression, and interpersonal relationships. Techniques may vary by the
theoretical orientation of the individual therapist and the presenting problems
and cognitive level of the resident, as prescribed in the master treatment
plan.
Group Psychotherapy is a regularly scheduled
formalized psychotherapeutic session held in a group format five to six times
per week. This modality assists residents' work toward individualized goals and
objectives established by the physician, treatment team members, residents, and
family. Generally accepted rules of organization and conduct govern group
psychotherapy. Groups can focus on verbal communication or other methods like
art and shared interests. Group psychotherapy addresses several specific areas.
These areas are interpersonal relationships, dysfunctional patterns of
behavior, and an awareness of others as a whole, feeling human beings who
experience painful and joyful events in their lives.
Family Therapy. The Institute considers family
involvement in their child's treatment essential to quality care. All residents
and their families are involved in family therapy/consultation. Family therapy
is a form of "systems therapy," focusing on relationships within the
family with the treatment of one or more members.
A primary goal of family therapy is to provide
the best assistance to the family by facilitating decision-making for follow-up
care after discharge from the Institute.
Family therapy is conducted by primary
therapists and physicians. The Institute recognizes the need to foster positive
changes within the family structure in order to promote the resident's response
to treatment.
Psychopharmacological Therapy is used for those
residents who may benefit from medication in conjunction with their psychiatric
disorders. Psychopharmacological Therapy is used to facilitate a resident
becoming more cognitively receptive and the reduction of impairing psychiatric
symptoms. Psychopharmacological Therapy is provided and monitored by the
attending physician and is based on assessment data and individual resident
needs. Psychopharmacological Therapy is indicated in the master treatment plan.
Trained staff, including Registered Nursing staff, assists the physician by
administering medication and documenting medication usage and effects.
Education for residents and families regarding the nature of prescribed
medicines is provided by the attending physician.
Milieu Therapy. A social and organizational
model of providing psychiatric care called "milieu therapy" uses
scientific manipulation of the environment to change the resident's personality
and behavior.
Two levels exist in the Status System.
Participation in the assessment and treatment plan is primarily the determinant
of these two levels. Level 1 alludes to an inhabitant that is impervious to the
cycle, and Level 2 addresses an occupant who is coordinating and exhibiting
individual ventures to work on his/her psychosocial working. As a result, the
resident experiences more positive outcomes as he or she moves up to Level 2.
Community Roles have been created to help
residents keep going, get them involved in activities of daily living, and
provide diagnostic information about how well they're doing as a whole. An
adolescent's acceptance into the community does not depend on their status.

with his/her friends no matter what the level they have reached.
Several methods are used to implement behavior management. A seven-day-a-week program with a design that
is both habilitative and rehabilitative is the Recreational and Activity
Services component of the program and therapeutic milieu. The resident's
creative, physical, leisure, and social skills are developed and maintained
through structured activities in the program. The social areas of positive
interactions and group settings, the capacity to follow the rules, having
success, and sharing experiences are among the goals of the recreational and
activity programs, support of others, and motivation to participate.
